Diana - thanks for commenting and welcome to the Office Flandom! It sucks you in, doesn't it? I rented the 1st disc of season 2 on a whim back in Sept. 06, and I went straight through it. I went to 3 different Blockbusters to find the 2nd disc! Needless to say, I was all caught up by the next new episode.
Anyway, thanks for your comment. This is certainly one of the more muddled mysteries on the show. It seems the writers themselves aren't sure who started first! But I like my fangirl-vision of a bored Jim, ready to walk out on his job until a vision in a cardigan walked in and he decided it wasn't so bad ;-)

I agree with Theory 2. Since Michael called Jim for advice on Oscan being gay, and is in a fantasy football pool with Kevin, I'm sure the news got to him about Pam cancelling the wedding. Kevin has always shown an interest in their love saga, and we all know Michael can't keep a secret. It's safe to say Michael told Jim immediately that the wedding was off!

I agree the the phone call Pam received from Jim was the first time they've talked... since he called after 5pm hoping to miss her. And didn't know what to do when she answered.

So, I think he was reacting to the fact that she was going on a date. He told Michael in "The Convention" that he had laid it on the line and Pam rejected him... twice (both in the Casino Night I'm assuming). So I think it's safe to say Jim was done trying to win her over and would have spent the month after his transfer trying to forget her, then after hearing she didn't get married from either Kevin or Michael, he would have spent the next few months leading up to the convention waiting for her to contact him. And this would explain his shock to hear that she's moved on to dating other men instead of calling him.

What I want to know is WHY didn't she call him!!!!!!! She tells us in "Beach Games" that she called off her wedding for him. Even though she knew how badly she hurt him, it would have been worth trying to talk to him since she finally realized she had the same kind of feelings for him. Maybe she figured it was too late since he'd already moved away??? Any thoughts?

I've recently become obsessed with this show (watched the Pilot last sunday and finished the season 4 finale on wednesday).

I love that Jim says he liked her from the first time they spoke... but I'm pretty sure that Jim started first. Pam did say during "Launch Party" on the roof that she showed Jim to his desk on his first day. The comment Jim made about taking her to Cugino's WAS a deleted scene so technically we have to act as if it didn't exist, because there's also a deleted scene where Michael's Worlds Best Boss coffee mug gets smashed but it's seen later in the show since technically the smashing never occurred because it never aired. In "The Secret" Jim does say that he had a crush on her when SHE first started... and since "The Secret" aired before "Launch Party" we must assume that Launch Party was the mistake since it came after chronologically.

I'm super late to this but I was doing a Google search because I was curious. In the Launch Party episode, during the conversation on the roof, didn't Jim say that on his first day, Pam said to him something about "You will never forget the time before meeting your deskmate (Dwight)"?

I'm so confused.

I had to stop after Survivor Man because I don't have access to the second half of this season, post-writer's strike but I agree with all your choices. I heart The Office so much, if I were to make a list, it'd be the top 10 moments of every episode or something.

Kelly's pregnancy scare, the bouncing box and PB&J kissing action are my personal faves!

I also love your choice of blog name! That was a great episode. Especially with the yogurt-lid medal tie in with Jim asking Pam out on their first date.

There is an episode in which Karen says "I moved to Scranton for you..." in which I interpreted it that they were dating before the merger an she followed him there.

I believe Theory 2, and I think one more argument would be: if until that phone call Jim thought Pam was still with Roy and all he heard was Michael saying "Have fun on your date," there's a good chance Jim would just assume it was a "date" with Roy. I know Roy wasn't that romantic a guy, but it's not uncommon for a husband and wife to go out to dinner and call it a date. Him thinking she was married and instantly jumping to the correct conclusion that she was single and dating new people based on that one little comment from Michael would be kind of a stretch, IMO.

In one of the episodes (can't remember which) Pam explains that she warned Jim of Dwight on his first day.

~But the picture of Jim and Dwight in the "old days" is hilarious. haha

Possibly there is another sighting of Suspect #7 on the deleted scenes of "The Coup", 3rd season. Dwight leaves the conference room to look for Angela. As he leaves the kitchen to head for the break room, there is a woman sitting there. Who is she? And also, why doesn't Michael require her to attend the movie?

Okay, amusing story time: I was asked to wear a costume and explain Halloween to the 7th graders at my Japanese junior high. I kept trying to tell the teacher, "I don't have a costume, there's no place to buy a costume in this tiny town, and I have no time to go to a bigger town to buy a costume" but I got the ol' Japanese "Gambatte" (do your best) so I had to come up with something quick. But Office came to my rescue; I made cat ears out of a black sock, used a black belt for a tail and drew a nose and whiskers on with eyeliner. So basically, I was Kitty Pam. Now to find my 3-hole punch Jim . . .

I'm a frequent lurker here and I thought I'd submit a couple of my fanvids -

I'm a HUGE fan of JAM videos (and other Office videos too). So for mine, I'm just trying something a little different. I'm trying to use production techniques not commonly used in fanvids.
